Okay...so I gave in... to Twilight 4 months ago

It turns out the alumni book club changed the book they are reading for next month and I haven’t yet picked up my library card. But I did decide to give in and buy a book that I’ve heard over and over is a fun, additive read-Twilight. I really didn’t think teen vampire fiction was for me, but I started reading it Thursday and am hooked-reading it whenever I can. It feels a bit like a guilty pleasure book (rather than something intellectually stimulating). But I think that’s exactly what I needed. I need to be caught up in a story and character emotion.
I’ve been surprised at how emotionally nurturing it’s been to read. I think it’s nice to put yourself in a characters shoes, think about how emotions they are feeling are comparable to things I’ve felt in my own life (not that I’ve fallen in love with many vampires in my day :)

Maybe I need some fiction 4 months ago

Loving my Omnivore’s Dilemma, but this book, like all the other non-fiction food books I really love is so easy to put down and pick up at a much later date as it is information filled more so than a plot I need to follow. I think to really get into a habit of reading everyday I need to have a book that I can’t put down-that I need to find out what will happen next…

I’m sure I have some great novels in my box of books that are yet unpacked in my room, but I do often feel like since those are mine, I’ll get around to them sometime.

I think I need to go down to the library and get a library card and check something out. Perhaps the due date will help push me along. Some college alumni have a book club in my new town and I’ve been thinking about going. I think I should get the book they are reading for next book club and use that as inspiration to get through the book.

We read as a family everyday! Need to do more personal reading 5 months ago

We are now in an amazingly established routine of reading Harry Potter as a family each night before we fall asleep! My 4 year old loves hearing us read before he falls asleep, I love reading the whole series straight through-it’s awesome-even if we only read a few pages, we do do it every night!

What I really want to do now is find time everyday that I read my own books. I should really just start small, like set aside 15 minutes each day that are reading time-perhaps my son and I can do that together-I want to increase time he looks at books and time we read books at his pre-reading level.

I have a tons of books on my shelf that I have purchased over the past few years that are waiting to be read. I just finished grad school so I no longer have school texts fighting for my time. I read a great book last month, but need to get into another one of my own here again. I think I’ll read “Animal, vegetable, miracle”. Although I’m not reading for myself everday yet, I am part of reading with my family everyday. We got in a rut where we weren’t reading with our 4 year old as much as we used to, so we got some new books from the library and have been reading and acting out the stories a couple times a day this week. My partner is also reading us Harry Potter each night before we fall asleep. I’m loving it. My partner and I used to read to each other all the time when we first started dating, It’s fun that we are finding a way to do that again and incorporate it into our nighttime routine with our son.

I just need to spend my own time with a book as well during the time that I am mindlessly watching tv or on the internet.
