improve my italian

I’ve been going to a Meet-Up group for Italian speakers on a fairly regular basis. It’s a good chance to get to speak the language so that I don’t forget. I’m also reading a novel (Come Dio Commande) in Italian and currently working on translating some documents that I’m using to apply for Italian citizenship. My focus is really on learning other languages right now.

Last week I met the owner of a restaurant here in NYC who is from Rome. I got to chat with him and some Italian friends over wine, espresso and Grappa until five in the morning. Met with him again for dinner at his restaurant a few days later. This is definitely a way to improve my Italian although he is Italian style to the fullest and of course wants more than to just chat. Hmm . . . will have to work on that.

One of my friends Matteo is coming to visit me in NYC from Sardegna in September so that will be at least a chance to brush up. Very exciting
