i planned a trip to antarctica for december 2009. i paid my deposit in january 2009. a few weeks before we were scheduled to set sail, when i was already in argentina, the trip was canceled! there had been a small explosion in the engine, and the boat was decommissioned. after a lengthy negotiation process, the company gave me a sweet deal on a march 2010 sailing. i had to buy new plane tickets and new travel insurance, but at least my berth is confirmed. if at first you don’t succeed, throw more money at it and keep your fingers crossed.
