People who believe in something so strongly that they will disregard all evidence to the contrary fascinate me. I would love to experience that level of belief, just once. It must be so intoxicating it is addictive. I can’t think of any other reason that someone could be persuaded to to view biblical myth as truth and actually maintain that belief in the face of solid logic and scientific evidence.
Now I am, by no means, a solid rationalist. I do not feel constrained by logic, I am a creature of imagination. I try to remain open to possibilities, but in retaining an open mind I find it difficult to commit to one belief system, or even to one belief. For me, life is a continual experiment and my conclusions are always shifting. Most of the time I enjoy living this way, this ebb and flow of ideas and ideals that change direction with every new experience and every new tidbit of knowledge gained. But sometimes I look at believers (not just in god, believers in anything) and think, wowee, how do they do it? I’d like to know.
