I am not done with this one but I know I will finish soon! OMG – this book is one of my new favorites. I also know I like it more the way I’m reading it than if I was reading it differently – I’m reading it out loud to my child – and hearing myself makes it even better. The words are FANTASTIC and I love what Dahl does!

The Patience Stone
is the latest book I’ve read. Wow! It is a great story and really interesting to me.
I am working on a major change in the world and this book gave me the energy to continue on in my quest.
I liked the prose but I’m not certain about the end.
I recommend it. Especially those who are interested in how others in the world live their lives. Whether they want to live them that way or not.
Since a student lent me New Moon and Eclipse I decided to read that one as well even thought I didn’t need too. I’ll read the fourth just because I hate to not read all in a series and I also want to see what happens to Jacob.
Finished this one in time for the BIG blow out party my DSIL held. What an evening.
WOW!
My son and I both read this together – he is so into reading now as a 2nd grader it is awesome. I had hoped he’d like to read and now that I put all that work and effort into it since he was a little guy it seems to be paying off. :)
This was a great chapter book for him to read because it was easy for him but not super easy. I am proud of him.
I wonder if we can find more in the series? I think he’d like to read the rest and he really liked the Henry character.
If any of you out there are interested in WWII or stories about people who do amazing things than you might also enjoy Robert K. Wilcox’s First Blue: The Story of World War II Ace Butch Voris and the Creation of the Blue Angels
I really got into this book because of a few things, 1) it was well written, 2) it was about an amazing man and 3) it was about a time in history that is fascinating in its raw human-ness.
I found it while looking over the “new book” section at my local library – a common method of finding GREAT books that I suggest to anyone who has the ability to spend some time with their local library.
Off to read the next “new book” section find…
Lafcadio: The Lion Who Shot Back
I read this story to my son a few days ago. He liked it because Shel Silverstein is silly but I liked it because of the moral of the story – well the morals.
I suggest it to everyone.
Basil and the Pygmy Cats (a Basil of Baker Street mystery) by Eve Titus I just finished another kids book with my child. This time I found it at the local library and had to check it out because i have a soft spot for stories with mice in them. So basically this set of stories is a series of mysteries that has a parallel world to humans but it is mice (I think this has been done before a few times) and there is a detective (who is just like and treated like Sherlock Holmes). I laughed a lot when reading it because I couldn’t believe someone got this book published. But the illustrator is one I like – Paul Galdone.
Anyway, if you like mysteries and strange creations of alternate worlds you might like this book. The little person I read it too wasn’t too intrigued but then again he was allowed to watch SpiderMan today – that sorta over powered all else.
Nobel’s Women of Peace by Michelle Benjamin and Maggie Mooney – a title within the Women’s Hall of Fame Series from the publisher Second Story Press – really great book – I learned so much about these amazing women. I know that there is a lot of controversy but the motivation and dedication and will of these women is mind blowing. It was awesome to read. I loved it – I believe all middle school readers should read this book and then discuss.
