Change University

so you think you are going to get a college degree so it will guarantee a certain outcome for your life. You attend the university/college and get a degree of a specific subject and then try to find a job in the field or discipline you studied.

But come to find out you have no guarantee what-so-ever that your degree will generate any type of outcome and you find yourself getting any type of job that will do. Then you realize that there are skills you have not obtained and you aren’t a happy person. Well why is this? Is it because you don’t have the outcome you wanted? Or is it because you’ve gotten disenchanted with how the world works and you want a good job that will pay the bills? Wonder why you don’t have the work ethic or the motivation to keep going? Do you question your confidence and abilities? Should these issues be things you learn before you go out into the world? When are you supposed to learn these things?

Parents are charged with the responsibility to prepare you to be a responsible adult, but not all parents are equipped to do this nor are they interested. What guarantee is there out there that a person will grow up knowing how to make positive decisions for themselves? There is no guarantee. Whose responsibility is it for the up and coming generation to be taught? Just the parents or the community that the child lives in? What should happen?

I believe this is the need for change university.

I have a location too!

And the time will be from 10am-2pm.
It would be awesome if there was a way to do an internet televised thing where people from all over could participate.

So the first meeting to start this up will be on the first saturday of January 2010 – I am excited and need to get the invites out as soon as possible.

The DH gave me a site (http:novemberlearning.com) so I could see what someone else is doing out there. It is interesting but the site doesn’t tell me much about their theories. I’ll have to see if the libraries I have access to have the founders books in their holdings.

so I’ll get a fuel efficient, non-polluting, earth friendly green bus and go around and pick up my students of “Change University” and each week we’ll go around to learn something. Our bus and its ability to get around will be how we create change in our minds to learn about life and our world and how we can continue to be this way through out our lives. We’ll visit different locations which will be all guided around learning – a point for each destination. We could do this once a month or something to bring the content of the courses home to our souls – seeing it in person. We could have small class sizes because we could have a bus for each class. We could even sleep on the buses if we drove somewhere far. A bathroom on the bus even? We’d share in creating food for each other so we don’t have to buy fast food. We’d picnic. We’d do holistic stuff in order to get around. Create the least amount of impact on the planet as possible to be able to use the bus as a classroom.

I think someone already came up with this idea – maybe a summer time learning type camp?

Wonder if it would even work? I think it would we would just have to figure the logistics out.

Change – what is the purpose of change? Can’t we keep things the same? I watched the movie Doubt and it seemed to me that the priest wanted to change with the times. Would that be what Change University was trying to do or would Change University be more like the sister was trying to do – keep things the nice safe proper way they had been? I believe both are beneficial but only if done correctly? Maybe having Change University discuss how the world could do both better so we aren’t going more on one side than the other? Should that be the mission statement of CHANGE UNIVERSITY?

I think if I do create this university it will be required to take a course on physics. I have two books that could go with this course. I am not talking hard core science physics (some would be involved) but I’m talking more of the concepts of how the theories of physics have changed over the past 100 years. What are humans discovering lately? How does physics change how our world can operate. If we want to see radical change on this planet (universe) how can our education at this university allow that to happen? This is what I’d like to see with this course – fundamental change can happen – it has happened in physics. It can happen EVERYWHERE!

Does anyone else have any suggestions for other books on physics that would be good for this course? I think it would be awesome to get a syllabus started and see if I can get a professor to teach it at my current institution.
