learn Chinese

According to my chinese professor, I should be able to recognize and recall approximately 115 characters at this point in my study. Unfortunately, I think I can only recognize about 70, and I can only remember maybe a third of that number. Each week we are required to memorize more and more complex characters, and then in class she gives us supplementary characters that we need to memorize as well.

It is too much work and I have fallen behind. I want to continue to learn Chinese, but it will not be possible for me to take the class and memorize the words at the same time. It is too complicated. I have decided not to take chin 002 next semester.

I am currently listening to www.chinesepod.com, they are very helpful I have found.

I have asked so many people for suggestions in memorizing characters, I have even written all of the characters (all 115) of them at least 20x each, and I still do not remmeber them any better than I did before.

I got into Elementary Chinese today and picked up the book from the bookstore today! chinese language here I come! ^__

... And that’s about the extent of my Chinese greeting. Teeehee. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to learn Mandarian or Catonese… so I just settled on Mandarian. I bought a couple of books (One with practices, one on script + writing) we’ll see how self-paced I am. I’ve been working pretty diligently through them and practicing.
