I realized recently how many times I use tired cliches when I speak. We all do it, I guess. But, really, aren’t there new ways to put things? I’ve noticed that I tend to do it when I want to impress someone. Maybe I should make my goal to stop trying to impress people. But why? Some people are worth impressing…it insures that you can get “over the hump” in a new relationship and move on to the next step – being friends (or more than friends, if that’s the objective). It doesn’t always work out that way of course…I usually end of scaring people off or (more likely) looking like a putz. I can’t help it though. I love trying out new expressions on friends (or non-friends. Whoever’s around, really). Sometimes they’re funny, sometimes they backfire completely. But at least they’re not the same damn thing you hear every time you eavesdrop on people in the coffee shop.
