Become a librarian

I now work as a librarian at three different places. Together, these three jobs add up to full time, but two of them are very temporary… I will keep this goal until I find something steadier.

I landed another part-time, short-term job today.

I’m not sure my job title will be “librarian”, but the work I will be doing definitely is librarianish and good experience for the future. It’s completely different from my other part-time librarian gig, which might be a good thing or make me go crazy.

We’ll see.

When I completed my MLIS degree I decided I could mark this goal done when I landed my first librarian position. Well, now I have. The problem is, it’s only part time, and in itself won’t even pay the rent. Still, I’m really excited about it and the experience will be great.

So now I am a librarian, sort of. But as long as I can’t make a living at it, I won’t mark this goal done. But it’s a big step forward, I think?

I LOVE library work. Now, job hunting.

1. The MLIS is done, with honors.

2. I’ve done some volunteer work at a local library.

I only have the thesis left before getting my MLIS degree. But I still haven’t actually worked in a library. I think it may be quite hard to find library work (even temp work) where I live because of the competition and few available positions. And I can’t really leave before I get the degree, quit my current part time job and find a job somewhere else. But to land a position at a library a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e I suspect I will need at least some related work experience.

So where do I start?

An unpaid internship maybe? Then try to get some temp work.
