create a vision board

So, my vision board has been sitting since last summer. I have had a lot on my shoulders, so I don’t feel the least bit guilty for putting this on my list and then not getting to it, but meanwhile, I did decide how I will proceed.

I really liked the mandala idea but I had to figure out how to display my visions without totally covering my art. Enter TINY PHOTOS!!! What I’m going to do is cut out lots and lots of pictures of stuff I love and color coordinate it so that it appears as a mandala when viewed from across the room.

It might take a couple years to do it, but it’s gonna be AWESOME! Plus, the process itself will keep my vision board alive for a long time and keep my goals in front of my eyes, even as they are being realized.

I guess I should buy a little divider box so I can organize the images into colors as I find them.

I finally got to the end of the procrastinating time for this and actually drew a dozen or so design elements on my board today. It already looks like a mandala and it only took a few minutes!

I discovered something weird about myself though. In my reading about mandalas, I came across a comment about finding the center of the board (obviously said by someone who can do this without measuring), that most everyone innately knows where the center of the board is.

I was several inches off in my guess. Of course, the only reason I even took a guess was because I had read his comment. Oh, so what if I needed a ruler. I drew a couple perpendicular squares in my circle, too, so I needed the ruler anyway. ha.

So far, I like it!

I write out “invitations” every day. I want to put pictures, or maybe drawings, of them on my board, but I decided that “Background Blue” is indeed NOT going to cut it as background.

I have been considering drawing a giant mandala for the background of my board. I do want to do it, but it is still in the pondering stage. Perhaps tomorrow I will draw the circle.

I’ve got my board painted. I decided on denim blue. Denim Blue goes with everything, right? It probably won’t even show once I get all my “visions” on it.

. . . and pulled it out from under the bed. It’s a 3-fold piece of cardboard similar to a science fair board, but just plain brown on both sides. I acquired several of them so they are stored under the bed.

Next step: get a pretty background color on there and seal it with my new spray varnish.

... and I need a place to put them all.

This will not be about my 43T goals, per se, although they do overlap. Well, actually… all of the things that are going on the vision board ARE already on my list, but this is my chance to focus and prioritize on the four or five that will really make a difference in my life.

I was going to use poster board, but I have a few science fair boards that the kids never used. I think I’ll get one of those out from under the bed. That’ll give me plenty of room for some really great creativity!
