I wanted to learn to dance with my husband, but that isn’t happening, so I considered listing this under “gave up on” goals.
However, I have learned a lot of choreography and I can swing dance (although it does me no good because the Dearest can’t), so I guess those things (and maybe a little car bopping) will do.
This was one of the goals on my original list here on 43T, and I guess a year and a half is long enough. I have learned some dance I didn’t know before, so I’m calling it done. :)

When I was coaching cheer, we would often name a step after a letter of the alphabet. You can picture what a cheerleader would do if I yelled T, right? It was something like that, but with dance moves instead of cheer moves.
So I figured, why not assign a move or step to EVERY letter of the alphabet? That could make for a bunch of really cool 8-counts, and 8-counts are really all you need to be able to dance to just about anything!

Me! On a dance floor. WITH a partner!
We went to the adults Valentine’s Dance at church tonight and it was really fun. The theme was the 1950’s and they had hotdogs and ice cream sundaes. The decorations were unbelievable. So much tremendous work for a church dance. It was astounding!
We even danced several times. We haven’t danced together in years (read my last entry on dancing for the reason ;]). I’ll probably be sore tomorrow, but I don’t care. It was fun.

I’ve done my research on being “taught” some dance and the result is dismal, so I’m just gonna start on this.
There are dance classes up the wahzoo for kids around here, but the only classes for adults are at the formal dance studios like Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray. The fact that they are too expensive is so obvious, it really doesn’t even bear mentioning, but they also don’t offer the kind of dance I want to learn. I don’t need “partner” dancing. The husband would never take lessons in the first place and his current dancing is reminiscent of a blind lumberjack, so my goal is not focused on being able to “go dancing.”
I want to dance for movement and exercise. The gym has no dance classes. The city has no adult dance classes. But hey! I coached cheer for eight years and have choreographed dozens of dance routines.
Time to put together a few for myself and then call this goal done!

...but it was a group of people doing a workout that I thought I had made up for myself just a few days before seeing it! How weird. Anyway, it is called, “Hip Hop Abs” and is very expensive. I was listening to the soundtrack of Newsies (of all things!) one day and started bouncing around and dancing to it, and the same steps come out on the advertisement for this DVD! I am sore now, so that probably means it is working and I just saved myself a bundle of coin! Wow.

I own so many dance flicks. I want to learn how to move like that instead of just watching. I used to coach cheerleading, and we did a lot of hip hop, but I want to learn all kinds of dance. Dance is such good, invigorating exercise! One of these days, I’ve got to get into a class or something.
