14 cheers

Five more almost ready to be released!

I’ve got the note written, a bunch of books registered, and a plan to get them to Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and New Mexico.

Now all I have to do is make stickers for the ID#’s, pack’em up, and let’em go!

Soon.

Maybe a map would help:

Oh . . . My . . . Goodness

Two years without writing anything about this?! It’s funny that it doesn’t seem that long because I’ve been thinking about it the whole time.

Since my last entry, I’ve been to San Francisco, New Orleans, Cancun, Nice, Ventimiglia, Florence, Rome, Venice, Lago Maggiore, Lucerne, Kriens, Paris, Calais, Dover, London, Washington DC, Baltimore, Aberdeen, Phiadelphia, Hershey, Gettysburg, Newark, New York, Charlottesville, Williamsburg, plus all the cities between South Portland, Maine and Manchester, New Hampshire. I realize that thirteen of those cities are not in the 50 states, but the point is that when I started this goal, I didn’t think I would be able to actually GO so many places!

So now that I’m making headway on the travel goal, my objective for this goal is becoming more and more clear. I DON’T need to go place books all over the country, but I DO have a plan.

I can get my new friends to do it for me. heh heh.

All the way to Florida...

... yeah.

And forgot all about BC. I actually remembered several days before I left Orlando and had access to a computer on this trip, so I could have gotten a book at the library book sale when I WENT there and registered it and released it, but I didn’t.

I’m thinking this might not really be something I want to dedicate part of my life to. If it had been a priority at all, I would have just done it, but I was too busy playing with my family to fuss with it.

I’ll give it the summer. If I feel like sending books around the country – which was my original intention anyway – I’ll keep the goal until it’s done. Otherwise, I may forsake it in favor of more immediately gratifying service.

Three More States in One Trip!

1/15/08 I left a book on top of a gas pump in Kingman, AZ on the way to Utah.

1/19/08 The second of the 3 was left on top of a gas pump in St. George, UT on the way back home.

I have a feeling this method of releasing books along the open road will turn out nicely. Everyone stopping at a Flying J is going somewhere else. These are not simple commuter gas stations. Reading a book will give them something to do in the car and when they’re done, they can set it free again!

We’ll see how it goes.

The third one was in Las Vegas, NV. We had just come out of a restaurant and I saw this awesome copper boulder sitting next to some bushes. It needed a book, so I left the last one on top of it. Very cool.

I went all the way to Hawaii...

... and forgot to get a book registered and ready to take with me. I thought about buying one there and having my daughter go online and register it for me, but we never saw any books for sale.

I was lamenting the fact that I had forgotten, when the dearest said I would just have to remember NEXT TIME. What? OH!!!

Yay. :D

Cleaning up the Library...

...will generate a great pile of paperbacks that I will either never read, or never read again. They are gathering dust, and I would rather have hardcover books in my library, so I hope to get another 20 or so registered soon.

Colorado and Wyoming (#2 &3)

7/26/07 – I set one book free the day we went to ride the Royal Gorge Railroad at Canon City, CO.

We had to wait around for an hour or so. There is a pretty park across the river from the train depot, so I went to the car and got one of the books I brought and set it on a table in the ramada next to the duck pond.

The pond was full of very friendly Canadian Geese, who came and visited with us. Cool, eh?!

7/27/07 – I released the other one in Cheyenne, WY after having a blast at the Rodeo. We got “Free t-shirt” certificates, which we had to redeem at a store in Cheyenne, and after that, we passed Cahill Park and I left the book in a Yellow Ramada.

17 ready to go ~

I registered 17 books on Sunday afternoon. Go me!

Lots of Books to get ready!

I went to a Thrift Store today that has books for 35¢ each and bought a bunch of fairly well-known titles. Two are going with me to Colorado later this month. One of those will get to be released at the Rodeo in Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 27th!

Hey, “Firegirl” ~
Do BC’ers release in paperback, or mostly just hard cover? . . . Or mostly in paperback? I have tons of paperback novels, YA books, and even Children’s Lit that I could release but I worry about the wear & tear.
