Feeling Full 1 day ago

I’ve been noticing this weekend that I start feeling full after eating only a little. I am encouraged by this as it must mean that my stomach is shrinking and I won’t be likely to feel hungry as often, or over do it when I am hungry.

Weights & Measures 2 weeks ago
Two new things to help me with this goal.
  1. I bought a doctor’s scale that is accurate to within a quarter of a pound. I’ve always thought they were cool, so it’s like a special treat to use it.
  2. I found a cool new website called MapMyWalk.com which will undoubtedly prove helpful in increasing my activity level.

Having a PLAN -- what a novel idea! 4 weeks ago

So I made a little card upon which I can write what I plan to eat for breakfast, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. Every day, I can fill it out and put it in the small magnetic picture frame on my fridge.

Then, when I’m wandering about the house, filled with the urge to eat and forgetting that I may not actually be hungry, I can read my little “menu” card and be safe eating those specific things instead of ransacking the fridge and not remembering later whether what I ate even tasted good.

A new means of accountability 4 weeks ago

I already joined PeerTrainer, and log my food every day with that. It is more fun than helpful, though, to be honest.

The other day, I caught myself eating some random crap and asked myself, “What are you doing? Are you just a slave to food?”

This thought really struck a nerve! I kept thinking over and over that I should examine to what degree I eat just because food is there, blindly, without really noticing, or even tasting it.

I then went back to a website that used to be a favorite (before 43T came along) and set myself up a daily question, which is sent to my email. It asks me, “To what degree were you a slave to food today?”

I have found my answers rather enlightening, but more importantly, I have found that I am noticing every single thing I put in my mouth.

Self-Mastery seems to be the key here. I have it over so many other parts of my life. It’s high time I invite it into one of the most basic aspects of my existence: eating.

The Desert Heat 2 months ago

It’s 90° at 6:30 in the morning, with 80% humidity and no breeze at all. It only gets hotter during the day. I think we’ve had a record number of days over 110° already this year. So – it’s hot. That much is established, and because it’s this hot, food is not appetizing.

And yet, here I am, working up a sweat just being alive, regardless of how much (or how little) I move about and not losing any weight this summer. What a rip off! What’s the use of being this hot if I’m not going to melt away a few pounds in the process?!

Still keeping at it... 3 months ago

I lost another 2 pounds during the last half of June, so now I’m down 4 pounds since my birthday.

The heat here is probably helping. The official temps are taken in the shade at the airport. The real temps are at least 7degrees higher than that. For example, it was 116º in the shade on my porch this afternoon. ~:-[

Oh yeah, the point… It’s too hot to eat much.

The Parking Lot . . . 3 months ago

. . . has lots of good spaces—way out in the boonies! When I park out there, I get my workout just trying to get to the store from the car. I did it all day today. The only drawback was the extreme heat. We even had an advisory. I don’t know what the “official” temperature was today, but on my front porch at about 5pm, it was 119º in the shade.

A New Source for Motivation 3 months ago

I joined PEERtrainer a couple days ago. It’s really neat. There’s a log to update every day with all the food you eat as well as whatever you do as a workout. You can keep your own notes public or private and join groups, too.

Their logging is nowhere near as awesome as our robots have set up 43T for us, so everyone be thankful. Kudos to the robots!

Pretty good! 3 months ago

I’ve lost two pounds since my birthday.

My fist is a good measuring device. 4 months ago

We’ve already established that I like to eat small, even tiny portions, but what about going out?! It is so easy to go overboard when eating away from home, especially in the company of other people, who are eating a lot.

Well, what I do is plan to take home at least half of what I order right from the start. This way, when my food comes, it looks like two meals (or more) to me and I can easily ask for a to-go container.

I separate out an amount approximately the size of my fist, and eat that at the table. Then I take the rest home to eat later.

It’s a “hand”y method of portion control and stretches the food dollars to boot!
