budget

I carry around this plastic card.
and it says to me “Loz, if you want some money, you can have some…” Well, last week, I took it up on the offer.
I spent all of my pocket money, and then, spend that much again. d’oh! This budget/self discipline thing is going to take some getting used to.

After 4+ years of marriage, the ‘b’ word has caught up with us.
I recently analysed our 2008 spending, to come up with a 2009 budget. I worked out how much to allocate to our different expenses, how much we can have as “pocket money”, and how much to set up as a direct credit to our savings account.

So far it’s ticking along okay. But I find the self discipline part hard. I spend all my “pocket money”, and then I want more stuff… but I’m trying to hold back. And so far I’m finding that if I’m careful, I can do the grocery shopping and stuff under budget too.

But I think ‘budget’ is one of those continuous type verbs, not a thing you can do once, and cross off your list. So, I’ll leave this here for a while, until I can be sure that I’m actually following the budget I made…

Budgeting (one t or two? Mum?) seems like such a yucky hard thing to do. But, I think it’s something Eorl and I should do… (the reason for this will be made known on my blog within the next week- stay tuned!)

So, now that I have sponsored a child, there is room on my 43things list for “budget”. So, when I go online, I’ll have to look at it! So maybe that means I’ll get around to it.
