I have decided to clarify this goal.
It was “stop shopping”, but that was completely unrealistic… when am I ever going to stop shopping? A girl has got to eat, and that means going to the shops… and buying food! (Unless of course, you want to be one of those people who eats the fruit in the shop, so you don’t have to pay for it…)

So now, I want to “stop buying things i don’t need”.
Or maybe not completely stop, but perhaps “stop buying so many things I don’t need”...

failing dismally 2 years ago

I am failing dismally at this goal.
Did I spell dismally right? It doesn’t look right. But I sounded it out… and it’s the logical way to spell the adverbial form of dismal…

Anyway, the reason I’m using the word dismal is that during March, when I was supposed to have given up shopping, I bought…
  • a first aid kit for my car
  • some stuff from Office Works (ring binders and stuff for organising my “Speech Pathology Related Paper”- should have bought a hole punch at the same time!)
  • two t-shirts
  • some new underwear
  • some stuff at Ikea (a tree ornament thingy, finger puppets, magazine file thingies)
  • the new Jodi Piccoult book
  • birthday presents for two beautiful little girls (Molly and Olivia)

Does that sound like giving up shopping to you?
I think I need to change goals… or try harder…

giving up shopping 2 years ago

I have decided to give up shopping for the month of March.

It wasn’t exactly an easy decision.
But I have FAR too much stuff.
And (true confessions time), I have on more than one occasion bought things I already owned, because I couldn’t find the one I already had (for this reason I have more than one hairbrush, lots of pairs of socks, and at least three pairs of shorts to wear to the gym).

I have so much stuff I can’t even keep track of it- I have piles of stuff everywhere.
I have presents in cupboards and various other hiding places in my house, that haven’t been given to the people they were for.

So, this month- no “stuff” shopping.
I am allowed to shop for consumable items- such as food.
But no more clothes, shoes, books, CDs, or other “stuff”.

In place of shopping, I’m planning to put my energy into going to the gym, cleaning up my house, completing the things on my goals list on 43things, and spending time with people.

If I don’t keep this up for March, I will make myself do it in April too!
I might save some money too, but that isn’t the point of the goal.
