Yesterday on way back from my biology class, a friend and I saw a huge bird soaring over the canyon! I noticed it had red on it’s tail, and watched as it landed in the bushes across the way. I wondered if it had caught something and we went down to see if we could get closer.
The hawk carried it’s catch up into a tree really near where we were and we got to watch as it ate a snake! We just stood there staring up at it and remarking on how HUGE it was. After it had eaten it’s kill we got to watch as it soared off into the trees. It was such an exciting and surprising adventure!
As soon as I got home I searched the internet for hawks in the northwest and one of the first pictures that popped up was of the Red-Tailed Hawk. How perfect is that?
I’ve attached the link I found with facts and pictures of this beautiful bird. It had nearly a 4-foot wingspan!!! It made me think of Disney’s Rescuers Down Under and the huge bird that the kid rides on. :D
