go camping

Going on April 6 – 8th to Hot Springs, NC. We have one of the more primative cabins. I am pretty excited that we are going to have the opportunity to get away for a little tiny while and do some hiking near the Appalachian Trail, if not ON the trail itself. Yeay! Spring is here!

Would like to go camping there over Easter, but my job situation is still completely and utterly up in the air.

Steve got a new backpacking tent for his birthday, and I can’t wait for it’s maiden voyage.

I invision a night on the beach… somehow I got attached to that yearly sojourn, and didn’t notice until I didn’t go for a year! Sand in my shoes! Sand in my shoes!

If you have never been camping then you cannot know what I mean by mis-quoting Tale of Two Cities…

But it was most certainly both. Mostly best with a ripple or swirl of worst.

Good to be home… but I could have used another day out.

We are escaping from Asheville next weekend… as it is Belechere… which is great if you are a tourist, but not fun when you live in the city. We are going to tent camp in Ohiopyle State Park, which is located in South Western Pennsylvania. I am really really really looking forward to it. We haven’t been camping at all this calendar year… our best laid plans have fallen through in the past. Can’t wait for campfire cookouts, hikes on new trails, and visits to interesting sites. Yeay!

Wouldn’t the forest be about 10 degrees or more cooler than the city?

How can I even plan a camping trip when he won’t even talk to me? Yeah, being alone in the wilderness with him as things are now would be a real treat. Maybe I should just go by myself with the Dog? There is a whole summer ahead of us… he won’t hate me forever. And if he does… well then, I guess I will have plenty of reason to retreat to the wilderness for a weekend or two.

This year has been crazy so far. Every weekend has not been a good weekend to get away. Lots of family obligations and whatnot. But come Memorial Day weekend it is off to the wilderness… or at least a campground in the Pisgah Forest. And we will sleep on the ground… uh, with air mattress, and sleeping bags, and blankets, and a tent and tarp underneath us… but you get what I’m saying. I still got the Jones.

It is too nice to not be doing this! I want to camp next to a river and zen out to the splish splash. I want to smell like camp fire. I want to wake to river fog barely touching the ground. I got the jones.
