Slump :(  — 2 years ago

It was going so well, and then the slump hit. Run #1 of week 6 was run 10 walk 1. It was 8K!! and we did it, but I could tell at the time that it was too much, too quick. We talked about pulling back and running 7 instead of the 10, but didn’t. Should have. I could barely walk for the next two weeks – hips, ankles, knees all sore. Since then we have only run twice and neither was really good. We did try again tonight but it didn’t go well – Ophelia is bringing lots of rain it was too cold so we finished early with only about 3K under our belts. None the less we are NOT going to quit!!!

Started week 6 of the program today (run 5 minutes, walk 1 minute x 8) and thought it would be impossible, especially since we hadn’t run in almost 2 weeks, but WE DID IT!!! and it was nowhere as hard as I thought it would be. It really is happening – I’m becoming a runner!!!!!

Week 4  — 3 years ago

Can’t believe this is week 4 of the program – still going well… Up to running for 3 minutes walk for 1, and heart rate is much more regulated (120-155)!!

This is going so well! We just finished the first run of week 3 which included 30 minutes of running (run for 3 minutes, walk for 2, repeat x 10) – it felt awesome!!!

Well, I’m on my way. I’ve just completed week 1 of the ‘Learn to Run 10K’ program from SportMedBC (http://www.sportmedbc.com/Content/InTraining/Programs/LearnToRun10K%20Program%20New.asp). Don’t know if I’m really ready to move on to week 2 – might just repeat week 1. I really find that my heart rate is either through the roof (200+) or way below target (100-110) and I’m having trouble finding the right pace to keep it more regulated. None-the-less, I feel excited to finally be doing this – it has been on my mental to-do list for about 10 years!

I also feel pretty cool – for my birthday today my hubby (who is also doing the program) gave me new runners, socks, shorts & shirt, so I look like a real runner (except for the red-faced, panting, crawling part).
