I spent this last weekend in a Des Moines hotel for my wife’s family reunion. We have a 3-year-old girl and a 21-month-old boy who, needless to say, had their sleep routines disrupted by our trip away from home. They both needed us to lay down with them at nap time and bedtime before they could fall asleep.
As I lay on the bed in the quiet darkness waiting for my daughter to fall asleep, I found my breathing deepening and, instead of staring at the ceiling before I could go visit with the adults, I tried to quiet my mind for at least a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, I haven’t kept up the routine since returning home, but I plan to take a new stab at it this weekend.
