keep in touch with old friends

It’s something I feel obligated to do. I already do fine at it; I send everyone a yearly update around Christmas and I see my high-school friends when I visit my hometown. I think that’s good enough, so I’m counting this as done. Anything more will happen if it happens, but I’m not going to let myself feel guilty about not “trying harder.”

I sent some postcards to some high school friends. It was not actually any cheaper than sending a whole letter, but it didn’t take as much time and it comes with a lovely picture on the front. If I felt like I had to send a whole letter, I wouldn’t have sent anything at all.

Nothing really groundbreaking, but a nice collection of strategies that I ought to use more often.

to a friend and she wrote back. More detail in her email than in mine, but I’m counting it for purposes of my challenge.

on using up all my stationary by writing old-fashioned, handwritten letters to my friends. You know, ones in this style. I’ll even dig out my quill…

I just wrote a quick email to an old friend. I’m glad I did! I can’t wait to hear back from him.

to a bunch of people I know, informing them about my LJ account and inviting them to check it out. I’ve been meaning to do that for a couple months now, so it feels good to cross that task off my list.

are a great excuse to get back in touch with people. Especially if you have to call or email them to get their current address.

I saw R on Friday night after a break of two years. (It’s mostly because I had moved away for two years, but I could have called her sooner after I moved back.) We’re going to go on a double date sometime in January, if all goes according to plan. She still hasn’t met DH!

I talked with G on Saturday; she told me K is back in town and of course I knew J is nearby, too. I should plan a get-together. Especially if G is going to be in town sometime in the next few months…

Also, I’ve drafted an email to tell my friends about my LJ account, now I just have to figure out who to send it to.

is helping to keep me in touch with those folks who actually know about my LiveJournal account – but not many people know about it. I really need to broadcast its existence to the rest of my friends. I’m going to make an effort to send out an email about it by the time I leave for my Thanksgiving trip. That gives me about 2 weeks.

Maybe in the meantime I’ll beef it up with a few more entries.
