My friend and I got pulled over day before yesterday in my friend’s girlfriend’s car. Thing is, he has a revoked license, so since I had no license, which I guess was somehow better than a revoked one, the cops MADE me drive home. I was literally commanded to get in the driver’s seat and take the car home, and I had no complaints whatsoever, just prayed they’d follow me and not let me get pulled over by anyone else, since the car had a busted tail light and no tag. I got the car home safely with about four marked cars trailing behind me, but no complaints from my friend or local law enforcement. On the downside, we were taking the car to my work, and I ended up being late, but even so…even the cops think I know how to drive! Soon as I have the money I’m gonna do this…I know I keep saying that, but I’m basically guaranteed a car for $250 if I can.

Didn’t I read this thing when I was FIFTEEN? Oh, yes, I did, because I had a learner’s permit then, and now I have to retake that stupid test to get a license…ah, yes, it’s all coming back to me…
Only difference is that the state on the cover has changed since I was actually the normal age to be doing this.
I should be getting my permit (ugh…another permit? I had one of those when I was fifteen!) either Friday or Monday, and then probably a week from Monday getting my license. My friends are great and everything, but asking my friend’s MOTHER, who owns the car, was a better route…she says I’m like a second daughter, so she’s helping me out in a huge way, as long as I go the legal route and get my permit and practice first…about the only thing I need real practice on is the 3-point turn, because I’ve only done it a couple of times.
After the other night when NOBODY could give me a ride to see my sweetheart, who was really lonely and REALLY wanted to hang out, hint hint wink wink, including people who I offered gas money to, I got fed up and decided that next week I am getting my license.
SOMEBODY is going to take me to the damn DMV. I don’t really care who. Then someone is taking me out to the middle of BFE to get my car. I will take the backroads home, since I REALLY am not good with a five-speed.
One of my friends had something put in her drink the other night (she figured it out and got away from the guy in time, though), and I ended up driving her to the police station. It was only when I was pulling into the parking spot that I realized I was breaking the law (I have no license) AT THE DAMN POLICE STATION!
I did a pretty good job of driving, though, so I know now that I can pass the test. As soon as I get enough of a paycheck that I can get my phone cut back on, I WILL find someone to take me to the DMV, even if I have to carjack them to do it (haha, just kidding about that…I’ve got a couple good friends).
My friend from work is teaching me to drive a stick.
And I get paid on Friday, so I will have the money to go to the DMV and get my license as soon as I get good enough to drive his truck. Right now I shift the gears and he drives. I can drive an automatic, but the only person who will let me use her car who has an automatic says I have to get a permit first, and I’m not spending an extra $23 I don’t have to. Never mind that she’s let me drive it once before, and it came back in one piece with not so much as a scratch on it. Then again, I didn’t take it very far.
If I were not aware of the consequences, I would say “screw getting a license” and just drive. However, I know the consequences. Still, I drive when I have to in order to prevent an intoxicated friend from driving, to prevent a friend who’s already been in trouble for driving while suspended or revoked from driving, and when it’s more convenient. My friend was cooking breakfast at my apartment the other day when my estranged fiance wanted to go do something, and my friend gave me the keys and I drove. I let him park because he insists on backing into parking spaces, and I can’t do that, and when I was going up the drive to my apartment, I was technically in the wrong lane, but nobody was coming, and I quickly moved over to my side of the road. I didn’t signal once or twice, but this is Alabama and signals are optional for most people, and this was either when I was in a turn lane and it was obvious or when I was changing lanes and no one was coming. I was slightly in front of the stop line a couple times but still came to a complete stop where I could see, and it’s not like I was blocking a crosswalk or in an intersection or anything like that. Had I stopped where I could still see the red octagon like he told me to, I would not have been able to see cars coming around the curve, which I was not about to do. I also reminded him that he can’t talk about my driving, because I’ve never had a ticket or been to jail for a traffic offense (or any other offense) in my whole life.
My fiance talked his friend into letting us borrow his car, and I drove it around for a little while, or enough to show him that I do know how to drive. His friend, who was also in the car with us at first, had no problem handing me the keys later, even knowing I have no license. So this means I’m doing good, and all I need is $23, a car to take my test in, and to get off my lazy butt and go to the DMV.
I was telling my fiance that I need to get my license soon, and he agreed with me. We were talking about the time I had to drive my friend home, and he said, “Well, you must not have been driving that bad. You didn’t get pulled over.” And I realized that he was right. Not only am I a police magnet, but we took the main roads, which are always swarming with cops at that hour. Part of the problem was that my friend was already freaking out, and she’s not the type to let other people, even licensed people, drive her car.
I just remembered my neighbor finally got the money to get her new tag, so she’s not ridin’ dirty anymore! Which means I can take the test in her car! She’s already said I could, so this is great news…maybe next week I will go to the DMV.
