Everyone was a little travel weary last night, and the path was soggy from the rain, but the poke was a hit. I wasn’t sure everyone would vibe to seaweed salad and raw fish 3 ways, and no one seemed to shy away.
We had tiki drinks with sugar cane stirs, taro chips, and a couple of island friends too.
So happy and grateful to all who came. Not a good night for viewing the crater, but maybe there will be some clearing in the next night or two.
And today, the black sands await!

If you are coming to the Big Island for the Meet Up, chances are you will be staying at one of the Ten Most Awesome Vacation Rentals In the World! at least according to this writer. It was just yesterday I followed a Pinterest pin back over to the site, much to my surprise and delight.

It is not too late…
Hawaiian Airlines is offering a special right now for RT airfares.
The weather is winter changeable and fairly glorious. The whales are visiting. Madam Pele is unpredictable.
If you decide to come now, and want to be a part of the meet up, please message me.

That would be the crater within the crater within the crater etc at Kilauea Volcano. And yes, that’s the volcano of Volcano where we are all going to be.
There is a lava lake that has been rising and falling, and overall steadily rising in there. A lava lake is far from serene. It spurts and bubbles and tosses molten fiery rock about, a bubbling cauldron at a fierce boil.
From the visitor’s center you cannot see all that – yet! But you can see the light it puts out. And sometimes hear and feel the power of what is going on there.
It is possible there will be high drama for our visit.

The cable guys are here laying cable and before the day is darkened we will have high speed internet again… barring some unforeseen circumstance!
Also I am caught up on most of my work so have some time to spare.
I am going to be posting a series of pictures here. Those who are coming out for the meet up may want to think on them in terms of choosing places to go, and even the time of day to be there.
Hawaii island sunsets can be stunners. They are totally different on different parts of the island. One of my favorite places to be to watch is in Hilo facing toward Mauna Kea, out at Leleiwi.
Sometimes I write here about the texture of the water. This photo shows that in an up close way. Often the texture is even more compelling from higher up, farther away. We will get to that too.

Hello 43 Things people who are still thinking about coming out for the meet up. I’ve been holding dates at the treehouse open and dates at the main house open as well. Right now Feb 29 – March 3 still open at main house and March 1 & 2 at the treehouse.
If you want to come over for this, the rates on the table for these dates are super good.
But… if no one wants to step into the opening, I am going to open the dates so I have a chance to book them IRL. (this is my livelihood!) So… those of you who have been emailing me and pm-ing me – now is the time to decide!
Alternatively – the rooms may stay available, and if not, I can always help last minute travelers locate affordable stays on the island.
aloha!

If you are still in the planning phases of your Hawaii trip, know that it costs only slightly more to book a stop over in Honolulu. This can be during either leg of your trip.
here is a coupon link to a half price catamaran cruise out of Waikiki. If you are thinking about booking it, be sure to read the fine print about use.
Since some may want a schedule so they can plan other events, here is how our island adventure is shaping up so far. Monday will be the Volcano adventure and party. Tuesday will be the beach party. Details will be shared amongst those along for the get together. With a set day for the beach party, if the outlook weather wise is bad on the Hilo side Tuesday, the beach party will move to a dry spot if that is possible. 97% certainty of finding good weather on the west side of the island on that day.
How does this sound to everyone?
And do we have anyone else still thinking about this?
aloha!
