Reduce my RealAge

6 cheers

In theory I know I shouldn't use external factors to gauge whether this is "Done" but... 2 years ago

...having two separate people in the medical field think that I was a student (one lady thought I was 19!!) today sorta makes me think I can call this off.

Furthermore, when I look back on what I mentioned three months ago under this goal…

...I think I’ve done the following effectively:

  • Blood pressure control
Measured today and had 98/68 (low blood pressure) and thanks to the Mayo Clinic I’ll be sure to practice “self-care” by eating smaller, lower carb meals, increasing my salt and water intake, religiously taking my B-12 supplements and not worrying about “endocrine problems.” Yeesh, diabetes/insulin resistance worries is the whole reason I’m taking a battery of blood tests this week
  • Family history of ovarian cancer
Nothing I can do about this, unfortunately
  • Vitamin E intake
    Yay for wheatgerm!
  • Have cholesterol level measured
    Will be done tomorrow
  • Oral hygiene concerns
    I brush more often now…really!
  • Low vegetable intake
I make a HUGE salad every Sunday and draw from it the entire week
  • Low omega-3 intake
I take supplements for this and doubled my dose from 1 to 2 pills daily. I could probably use another pill everyday
  • Social network and stress
Hmmm, still working on this one but getting there
  • Low unsaturated fat
I’ve bought NOTHING with transfat in it for the past three months. Well, it helps that I buy little in the way of processed food anymore
  • Flossing habits
Floss? Wuz that? Actually, I have been doing it more…just not everyday

My 28.9 is really 26.0... 3 years ago

...says RealAge. I’m about three years younger than I am.

(Edit, 12 hours later: I redid the test to reflect where I was this time last year. Instead of reducing my age by 3, my RealAge was increased by more than six years. Wow. I’m glad to have lost the weight, considered veganism and adopted a healthier lifestyle that includes exercise.)

So what’s preventing my RealAge from being even younger?

Blood pressure control
Family history of ovarian cancer
Vitamin E intake
Have cholesterol level measured
Oral hygiene concerns
Low vegetable intake
Low omega-3 intake
Social network and stress
Low unsaturated fat
Flossing habits

Now, about the vitamin E thing. I have about 1/2 cup of wheatgerm daily so I’m golden. The test required one to enter supplement data and I don’t take Vit E supplements due to the wheatgerm.

Low veggie intake? I’m a vegan for goodness sakes! But I’ll work on it (she says looking at the wilting greens in the fridge…)

Low Omega-3. I guess this is from saying that I don’t eat fish. The supplement page didn’t ask about Omega-3 though so I think I’m golden here too.

I’m thinking I’m at least 25  I’d like to get down to 20.5. That would be peachy.

The hardest things to work on will be the social networking and flossing. I suppose if I want to expand my network though, I should make sure nothing’s stuck in my teeth.
