Bloody hell... 1 year ago

This week is all about blood. Tomorrow, I’m going to have the following tests done…

  • Blood sugar
Goal is less than 100 mg/dl
  • Triglyceride levels
Goal is less than 150 mg/dl
  • HDL levels
Goal is greater than 50 mg/dl

...all in an effort to measure what lies beneath (and hopefully explain my persistent abdominal fat).

These are health factors that I have avoided checking/monitoring since starting this weight loss process over a year ago which may be to my detriment in the long run.

(Note: I have been trying to upload this entry ALL DAY. For anyone who cares, 43T does not like “greater than” and “less than” signs. Or at least on the same line as “equal” signs. Oh dear, do the Robots hate math?)

When in doubt, ask yer mamma... 1 year ago

...and luckily for me, mamma is a physical trainer and former competitive body builder (“with trophies” Maltiti says proudly).

My guesstimate for this “harder than it looks goal” is 6 months. Mom said more like 8-12.

:-(

She also managed – somehow – to make this whole 50-25-25 seem even more boring with talk of creating fixed menus.

And why does she still not get that I’m vegan? It’s been about a year now that I’ve tried to incorporate this grain-based diet into my life. I think the poor dear is in denial.

An eye opening conversation (for several reasons as we discussed more than just my body sculpting concerns) and it’s all been taken under advisement.

I love that mamma of mine!

Quantifiable goals... 1 year ago

...based on indicators I’ve been following for months, numeric sub-targets are easier for me to post and attempt.

Body Mass Index
Current: 21.6
Goal: 20.4 – 21.0
Strategy: Lose weight but not sacrifice muscle.

Waist Hip Ratio
Current: 0.82 (apple)
Goal: < 0.80
Strategy: reduce visceral fat and reduce stress

Body Fat Percentage (Tape Measure)
Current: 28.55%
Goal: 23.0% – 24.0%
Strategy: Reduce waist by 3”, reduce hips by 1” and increase lean body weight (i.e. gain 7.3 lbs of muscle)

Body Fat Percentage is the scariest part as I don’t even know where to start with the lean body weight thing and it will likely require a whole other set of sifting through research; debunking and debating as I go along trying to find something that works for vegans. Sigh.

A woman's work... 1 year ago

...is ne’er done, y’all. Still another eight pounds left to go to reach my scientifically optimal weight based on BMI and body fat percentage.

The focus will not just be on weight loss but body sculpting as I’ve gained 1.5” on my waist despite being less heavy and I’d like my legs to be a bit more, hmmm, effectively runner-like (i.e. focus on hamstrings, glutes and inner thighs. The latter for vanity reasons )
