But it’s still going… it’s been a long process but definitely a labor of love. Been updating the blog: hill-house.blogspot.com

I do not ever recall having this much rain for this long of a stretch while living in Texas. And it doesn’t seem to be letting up anytime soon. Maybe I’m more sensitive to this fact because we really need to get going on construction.
To whoever’s doing the rain dance, please stop. At least until after they get the piers done. Then at least it looks like there’s something on the lot.
they’re drilling for piers… but there’ve been some delay since they hit water. hopefully they’ll be able to get back in this week so they can put casing around the piers
I’ve started a blog to document the process: hill-house.blogspot.com
The loan lady called yesterday to give us our credit scores; I must say paying off those credit cards really boosted our scores. They weren’t bad to begin with but WOW – I’m beside myself.
Soo… today they call back, they’ve approved our loan. Next step is to get the drawings to the appraiser and see how much they think the house will be worth. Then the bank will approve the lesser of the two amounts (appraisal vs what we requested)
Hopefully we can get the foundation started soon!
Kinda sad – the big post oak that would have been in the entryway had to come down. It was hu-hu-hu-huge! But from what everyone’s been telling us, them oak’s a finicky thing and if we did anything near it, it’ll die. Eventually, but die nonetheless.
There are still a lot of trees and foliage on the lot. There’s a huge blackjack oak near the spring’s edge that’s beautiful. We only took out what we needed to for the trucks and the footprint of the house. But still, I was still sad to see some of the big trees coming down. I think that I shall never see, A poem as lovely as a tree…
they’ve cut down the trees, leveled the land so the equipment could get in there to do a soil survey, completed said survey, submitted plans to engineer to get the ok, got the results from the survey and realized there’s water higher up than figured, adjusted foundation piers to account for water, hired tree guys to take down the 4 trees that are just way too big to do ourselves…
next step is to get the loan approved so we can actually get the foundation in there
Well, by that I mean the trees were coming down. Next step is the soil survey and having the engineer look over the drawings. Very exciting!
the condo is getting too small! we already have the lot, just need to break ground soon!
