My first hour long run in years -hell yah. I am getting fitter – so tryng to just get into running at the moment and not measuring it by milage but time and currently keeping it between 30 min and (as of yesterday) an hour to build my base up for the next few weeks. Then I will spice it up a bit

Had 2 days off from running cause I “was too tired” or that was my excuse anyway but went for a run last nite and really enjoyed it and am always glad when I have gone. Im not going to use the “Im too tired” as an excuse anymore cause it gets used too often plus I was watching these other women on survivor guatemala last nite and they were soo tired and rightfully tired getting no food and they still managed to dig up energy and motivation and that made me feel weak and gave me motivation if they can do that in those conditions I have absolutely no excuse.
30 mins down – another 7 weeks of base building – doing a 12km on the 17th of feb so 16 more days to go. Tonite 45min.
Well not quite sure what my distances are – but last nite I ran for 45min and it was great – that time is probably around my upper limit at the moment – could probably do 5-10 more min but I will build from 45. Going to alternate this week – 45,30,45,30,55 type thing and see how it goes. 10k on the 17 of feb so thats something to look forward to.
Well I asked my Personal Trainer who happens to be an amazing marathon runner training for the olympics about how I should start, in lament terms of course, and I got this from it – I am going to run 5 times a week with additional workouts like cross training, bikeriding and weights for the next eight weeks to build my base, for a sporadic runner like me. Keeping my runs around 6k with one long run (8-10k) and then work on increasing my weekly mileage by about 10%, with a big increas in the long runs, to do a half marathon in May and continue training for a marthon in September. So now to the execution
I am not v. good at following a plan- like 16week training programme but was just wondering what kind of increases in mileage per week or per run is reccommended just so I know how fast to build the distance of my runs.
Have not been doing too much towards attaining this goal but the tables have turned – really starting to get excited about it. Have bought a new pair of running shoes because my old ones have been there done that and definately had more mileage on them then reccommended, in my case it’s not that I run alot just that I’ve had them for a long time. half marathon may, marathon september – wish it was marathon may (has a better ring to it) but 2007 perhaps
Well the training begins tonite – Im going for a 6km run around the water front and it is beautiful outside. Got my ipod, got my shoes all ready to go
