Well am slowly getting there but far from the list I made awhile ago as what getting in shape meant to me I still don’t exercise most days try to but i am probably more of a three to four times a week type person at the moment, so need to pick that pace up a bit more. Am up to about 21 press up, can run about 40 mins easy(will be picking up the pace and increasing the time but have to be careful shin splints like me), have lost some weight, got the splits down 2 ways, ran these killer stairs yesterday (big achievement – next one is the hil at the reservoir). So need to pick up the pace a bit and prioritize a bit more – much easier to go if I can quickly get changed and get out the door without giving my self time to think and rationalize my way out of going. Am working on my list and next year am taking up mainly team sports and might drop the gym membership its starting to get boring.
manav has written 10 entries about this goal
I was thinking about what this entry actually meant to me – for some it might mean going to the gym three times a week and for others it might mean 4hrs a day and running up Mt Everest so I decided I had to clearly define this goal so I can get it off my list. I think this might include most of my fitness goals too. soo
Getting in shape for me means
1.) Exercising everyday – give or take one or two a month
2.) Means prioritizing exercise
3.) Being able to run for an hour easy
4.) Making the 100club for the army
5.) Doing the splits all three ways
6.) Getting below 20% body fat and maintaining it
7.) Being able to do 60 consecutive push ups
8.) Having visable abdominal muscles
9.) Not being out of breath when most others are
10.) Being able to do lots of manoevers/jumps on skis
11.) Being in the front row of the aerobics class and doing all the hard levels the instructors do
12.) Getting to the stage where missing a day exercising is unbearable
13.) Being able to run in winter in tights- “taut like a tiger”
14.) Being able to push your friends and family and being the first one to help and provide incouragement in physical activities
15.) Being able to do a pull up or 2 or 3 etc etc
16.) Get my VO2 max over 60 (currently 54)
I think that to do all this you would have to be in shape so these are my goals – and what I need to achieve to cross this off my list
Well here is to this week going to try and run daily – which is manageable considering time committments cause anyone can give up an 30mins to an hour. Going to go to my trainer twice this week for an hour and ride my bike to and from work four days a week – that should be an easy way to incorporate in some exercise and save on gas. If I have time to do more I will or if I feel like it I will but this way I don’t set myself up too much for failure by saying 2hrs+ tonite etc. I don’t want my life to revolve around the gym I just want the gym to compliment my life.
Last nite 30min run and a hour bike ride. Today I have a hour with my trainer, a 45 min run and an hour bike ride(mainly to listen to my tapes and cause its sooo beautiful outside) – want to get in some push ups and stretches too. Saw someone on this web site was taking pictures of himself weekly to see the transformation – I think this is a great idea and might start doing this. It would be cool to see the changes over time like that.
I am committed to exercising daily- at least one form of exercise a day. I think that exercise definately gives you more energy and refreshes you at the moment I want to focus on exercising daily and after a month of that I want to start exercising in the morning at least 5 days a week- I couldn’t think of a better way to start your day, but at the moment getting out of bed before 5am is a no can do but once school starts again I don’t have to get up so early so could manage exercise before class. Cause Im gonna be a lean mean fighting machine.
Well missed my run last nite it just got too dark too fast but I went for an hour bike ride, did some intense stretching that took me longer to try and pull my legs back from the stretching position than the stretching itself, press ups and crunches so I guess thats a start. Really didn’t want to do anything last nite, I actually decided to have a nap but then pulled myself out of bed so am stoked that I didn’t just lie around. I guess its all about turning old habits into new habits and will take awhile but I am ready.
Well on my way there but still far off from being in the best shape of my life. Did a session with a PT yesterday and we did boxing and my back is killing me muscle wise – kind of like the feeling cause I feel like Ive had a good work out. Am starting my training for a half marathon in 3 months today…although I said that yesterday today is definately the day. Really want to get back that core strength that I have lost in the past 2-4 years.
Well have decided that it is more important for me now to get into the habit of moving than having really hard workouts – which just don’t float my boat at the moment and as soon as I set one up the usual excuses immediately come to mind- I’m too tired, I don’t have enough time, I don’t feel well etc etc the list goes on – basically I’m just a big liar. Well have decided to take up walking which I happen to consider a nana sport – but I actually really enjoy it I can listen to music, audio tapes, have a good think and I have beautiful places to walk right outside my door the beach, waterfront paths, bush tracks and the lake literally right outside my door. I figure if I can make a habit of moving I will get back into running and other exercises. We will see how it goes this week.
Went to a Personal Trainer today- really good he pushes me harder than I would push myself, I think that makes all the difference- couldn’t lift my arms to wash my hair -ouch. Kind of like the pain though feel like Ive put them to work and relaxing is that much more enjoyable. Trying to think of some new fun ideas to keep me moving and I really want to have some fun am torn between – a surf lesson and a horse riding lesson at least either one I choose will be fun.
Well have begun the amazing journey. Picked up this awesome personal trainer – a marathon runner and an ex professional football/soccer player from the UK who has this beautiful small gym that looks out into the bush and feels really good to be in. So two days a week I go see him usual with two other ladies – thats all the people who are there at one time. It gives me accountability so I can’t slack off and I have to report to him each session. He also takes my measurements like weight, bodyfat, VO2 max and various fitness levels so I can look at improving them all and know where I have to work. Am working on building a really strong physical base till february so then I can start specific training for sport (soccer, basketball, volleyball and rowing) and other physical challenges (marathons, ironman, coast to coast and trialthlons). xb
- thank god were out of the 80s otherwise I would have definately not exercised
