this is not going so great

Lots of expenses and so little motivation. I’ve also just taken a few months long service leave at half pay….

oh dear

My husband’s job is hanging in the balance. The thing is, my pay doesn’t cover our mortgage so if his job goes we will be using our savings to pay off our mortgage as well as eating and other essential things…

But already we have really knuckled down – dinner’s out are pretty much off for the time being – or certainly much rarer – we were going out a few times a week.

And we now buy cleanskin wines – and we only have a bottle or two a week. That alone is saving us loads.

I have also dropped the groceries bought right back and really scraping food together and you know what? We still have amazingly delicious meals! So should be ok either way…

not so great this wk end

Have to get back out of the habit of buying food constantly. Bought some crappy take away yesterday morning. What a waste of money. I would rather have gone for some tapas at a local place and spend the same money there. It’s not a waste if its a delicious, soul soothing experience. Eating red rooster 1/4 chicken and chips is a waste.

Last year we really were a bit flippant with money. Even though I worked really hard to reduce our food bill, and to grow my own seedlings, stopped buying clothes to satisfy some emotional screwed up thing in me, all that kind of stuff, we still spent a bucket load of money. Mainly on wine and eating out. We love nice food and we love good wine. But we probably should think a bit more before buying. We were buying sometimes a few bottles a week and going out to lunch/dinner a couple of times a week – and not always to cheaper places. We are suckers for a delicious meal… so we have vowed to continue to simply our lives and reduce the wine we drink – one bottle a week (YIKES!!!) and to eat out once or twice a month.

This shouldn’t be too hard. And we will do other little things to – so we love this really expensive restaurant near our house – so we will still go there, but just on weekdays when its cheaper – and there is this ok only italian restaurant near ours, which was $70 for a very average meal and extremely poor service the other night. So no more of our hard earned money to them! I make a killer risotto, an amazing pasta and an excellent caprisse salad and I could do it for a smidge of the cost.
