I started my bin 4 weeks ago. I was trying to do hot composting with a homemade bin, which in theory should give you compost in 3 to 4 weeks? I’d been geting some brown leaky stuff through the drainage holes, and the lower part felt warm, so I figured that was good. I dumped out the bin onto a tarp today and… Well, something is happening, but it’s definitely not done yet. There was a lot of mold and my “browns” just look wet and brown. I also have a lot of fruit flies. I think I’ll get a drill to put better holes in the lid so the flies can get out. After that, maybe I just need to be more patient?
