There’s more to this! The Last Will and Testament is just part of it. I guess the other two are optional but I might as well deal with it all now.
The biggest issues I ran into were picking an executor, and dealing with the fact that one of my daughters is a minor. I’m going to have to redo the will when my youngest turns 18.
So I have another appointment with the lawyer for this. And he’s ask for a lot of paperwork to store with the will. I just of thought of those things myself!

It’s now in the hands of a lawyer, and I have no idea how long that will take. So I’m marking this as done since I’ve done my part.

I’m going to call the lawyer today on this. The forms ask a gazillion questions but they don’t match my situation. I need to create a trust for my younger daughter and I have no idea how to go about that. I think it’s best if I pay someone to work this all nice and legally for me. I hate not doing things for myself, but I think this is too important to just wing it.

So, it’s not enough to detail everything you have that is worth “leaving” to someone in your will. You also have to decide things like: If you and your heir die at the same time, would want your heir considered to have died before you, or after you? It all makes my head hurt!

I read the book and made copies of all the forms. Now I just have to fill them out and get them notarized before three witnesses. We’ve got a couple of notaries at work so that shouldn’t be too difficult.

I received the book! I scanned through it and it looks really good. It goes step by step and explains all the legal terms. It’s much more complex than what I need right now, but who knows… I could win the lottery tonight and then I’ll need to add all those fancy things to it. :)

I’ve been meaning to do this since I was pregnant with my first child. She turned 20 in June 2006! After my divorce, I knew it was even more important to do this since I had underage children, no siblings and no automatic inheritance by spouse. I’m not generally a procrastinator but this just seems untouchable for some reason.
