Learn Perl

I got the O’Reilly book on PERL programming for this goal. It’s not a tutorial, but I’ve learned well from O’Reilly books in the past. I can make my own tutorial, and their books usually contain everything you need to know, with the addition of some things you’ll only run into in unique situations (which I happen to attract!).

My problem is that right now I can only do this at work, and work is so busy (thanks to the Federal Government’s wisdom in passing the U.S. Energy Act of 2005 with it’s changes to Daylight Savings Time) that I won’t have time for this for months. And my Solaris Certification comes first. So this will wait a while.

More and more scripts are coming in from vendors in PERL instead of KSH. I can pretty much figure them out if I need to make minor changes, but now we have a whole slew of them that were written in-house by someone who has left.

Plus it will be fun.
