Hey, 43 things is online, but it's amazingly like real life. When you don't post anything for a long time, your subscribers start to desert you. 10 months ago

Funny thing…fickleness.

Okay, so everybody who wants to go to work tomorrow raise your hand. 10 months ago

Did anybody raise their hand? Is their anybody who is thrilled to go to work tomorrow? I need to talk to that person right away.

Every Sunday it’s the same thing…the dread, the apprehension, the sheer terror. Could I hide in the closet so they can’t make me go? Could I cower under the covers? Could I commit myself so that I don’t have to go anymore and not think about it.

I know, I know in this terrible economy I should just be happy I have a job…any job.

I hate going to job every day where there are over ninety-some people who hate you and don’t want to do what you want them to do.

I’m wondering if anyone out there is a waiter. Do you like your job? After you leave work, does the stress of the day leave? Is your free time, really free-time?

I took the 43 Things personality quiz and it says I'm a Romantic Self-Improving Extrovert. 11 months ago

Okay, so what the hell does that mean. Is the book worth buying?

Be Patient towards All that is Unsolved in Your Heart; Try to Love the Questions Themselves, and Gradually You Will Live into the Answers 12 months ago

See “Letters to a Young Poet” by Rainer Maria Rilke

Rainer, a famous poet, wrote this advice in a letter to his young friend who was a beginning poet. William Sloane Coffin picked up the idea and wrote about it in his recent and excellent book, “Letters to a Young Doubter.”

THANKS SO MUCH TO NEW ISABELLA FOR THIS ENTRY. I JUST WANTED TO HAVE IT SOMEWHERE WHERE I COULD FIND IT AND READ IT OFTEN.

I just want to quiet my racing heart and mind. 12 months ago

Must stop thinking. Relax, breathe, relax, breathe, relax, breathe

All Souls Day 12 months ago

I almost forgot that today is All Souls Day. I used to be such a good Catholic. It seemed to matter more a long time ago. Now the church has changed so much. I hate the mass not being in Latin, and the part where they have you turn and greet the person next to you is so hokie. The church needs to go back to the old ways. Okay, maybe not all the way back to the Spanish Inquisition (LOL). Just put the mass back in Latin and get rid of the hokie greeting the person next to you. Maybe I’ll try and go to Mass tomorrow. The first time in 15 years—maybe longer, and I’ll think this is pointless, why even bother. The traditions are lovely, but…

In Western Christianity, All Souls’ Day commemorates the faithful departed. This day is observed in the Roman Catholic Church, churches of the Anglican Communion, Old Catholic Churches, and to some extent among Protestants. The Eastern Orthodox Church observes several All Souls’ Days during the year. The Roman Catholic celebration is based on the doctrine that the souls of the faithful which at death have not been cleansed from venial sins, or have not fully atoned for mortal sins, cannot attain the beatific vision in heaven yet, and that they may be helped to do so by prayer and by the sacrifice of the Mass. I played some Stevie Ray Vaughn tunes that were youtube today for my students, and some of them... 12 months ago

didn’t seem to appreciate him. We are reading The Crucible and there are several parts in the play where it mentions people selling their soul to the devil. It made me think of Robert Johnson, the blues singer, who legend has it sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads. According to Wikipedia, Johnson went to the crossroads where “he was met by a large black man (the Devil) who took the guitar from Johnson and tuned it, giving him mastery of the guitar, and handed it back to him in return for his soul. Within 10 year’s time, in exchange for his everlasting soul, Robert Johnson became the king of the Delta blues singers, able to play, sing, and create the greatest blues anyone had ever heard.”

I was lucky enough to see Stevie Ray Vaughn and B.B. King in concert. HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LOVE THE BLUES? Oh well, I guess everyone has their own style. I’m just glad I got to see two such great guitar players and blues legends.

I'm really really trying to understand people who say they enjoy autumn. 13 months ago

I abhor autumn. I loathe it because I know it leads to the season of death, oftentimes called winter. There is a reason why Dante made the bottom of hell frozen. It’s because that’s what winter is—it’s hell on earth.

I wish I could hibernate for all of winter. Maybe if it only lasted a month or two, I could actually endure it. But it drags on forever—until madness in all forms sets in. People who live in warm southern states or warm western states should be thanking their lucky stars every warm balmy day.
