Even though it’s summer, I still have a tough time with this off and on, as my bedroom window faces west. After talking to my cousin, another midwestern-to-pacific northwest transplant, I decided to try a dawn simulator like she has. Indoor Sun Shoppe in Fremont sells them, and I picked one up today. You can adjust the length of the dawn & the time when you’re actually supposed to wake up. I have also read that they can be effective helping to adjust to a polyphasic sleep cycle – sweet.

when you need a lot more sleep due to the gym. Lately I need around 8 hours, which is a lot for me. I am really bad at going to bed early, so maybe that is the more critical goal here.
I have been better this week at going to bed when I’m tired, but am still getting up later than I would like. I am not sure how to convince myself that it’s really more valuable to get up than to stay in bed.
Which is sad. But I’d like to be at 7 by the end of January. I read that the best way to teach yourself to get up earlier is to a) go to bed when you’re tired, not before or after, and b) always always always get up at the same time. After a while, your body adjusts & realizes you’re always going to wake up at the same time. So eventually, you end up feeling adequately tired at the right time to prepare you to be well-rested by the time you need to wake up the next day.
Visiting my family & it’s beautiful outside, yet I have had days where I sleep until noon. I know I’m on vacation, but what a waste. My mom is proud because she likes to think it’s because I “sleep so much better at home.” Really it’s because I’m lazy. I need to fix this or I’ll go back to work in a week & have to stay there until midnight because I didn’t get there until 1pm.
