write a play

OK. I haven’t been keeping up on this lately. But I’ve written a 10-minute play (in addition to the 1-2 act I posted on before). And it has been pretty well received by those that have read it. I even have a scheduled reading of it in two weeks. This is in conjunction with another local playwright. So once I have that done, I’ll mark this as done.

Well I either finished the play or finished act 2. I guess I’ll find out when I get my readers’ comments. But I have no idea what to do for an act 3 if they think one is needed.

I was finally able to get myself back to working on this. I ran into a playwright I know here in town yesterday. Luckily I had just gotten back to work on this, so I was able to discuss it positively. I’ve added a bit more tonight, and kind of feel it is coming to an “end”. My only concern is that it will end up leaving the reader/audience wanting more. But I have a hard time with “ends”. Stories don’t end. I have to leave the characters with more to do. And maybe it is right for the audience to wonder. It at least means they’re thinking about it.

getting into Act 3. I kind of know what I want to happen, but can’t quite get the characters past the problems of Act 2. Sigh.

OK. I finally decided I didn’t know what to do with Scene 2 of Act 2. So I sent it on to one of my readers and started Act 3. So progress is resumed.

Is almost done (a draft at least). Though I’m considering a short Scene 3 before I jump to Act 3. I’m making slow progress.

Making progress. I’ve started adding a bit to Act 2. I’ve reached a dark point in the story so I’ll need to make sure and not falter. When I get past this, I’ll need to figure out how to build a happy ending. Or maybe not. We’ll see what happens.

I have a draft version of Scene 1 done. So now I need to work on Scene 2. The last couple parts are going to be the hardest to write I think. But I’m making progress again.

I had trouble sleeping last night. I tossed and turned and came up with the basic outline for Acts 2 and 3. I’ve added the scene breakdowns. So hopefully I can add some more and start making more progress on this play.

I took the plunge. Only a page or so so far, but I guess I’ve got to keep going.
