I have three weeks of water and three months of food, more of some things. If we need more than 3 weeks of water, we need to get to a new water source. I’ve paused at the 3-month level to learn how to better eat out of storage, track inventory, and get into a cycle of replenishing what we eat. It requires a change of eating and cooking habits.
We make bread only about once a week, which needs to increase. We make enough yogurt, and are experimenting with granola. I eat oatmeal every weekday, and we have increased our consumption of whole grains, legumes, and green vegetables. Greens still need more work. Trying to figure out how to increase the squash intake, since DH does not like it. DD12 is another stumbling block, with her picky dependence on canned chicken soup and spaghetti-o’s. I make stock, homemade soup and casseroles, and various curries for the rest of us.
We’ve made a lot of progress, and I have identified a lot of local sources for produce, meat, and bulk items. Need to work on local organic milk source.
I also need to work harder on finding buckets and barrels for more food storage, along with gamma lids, oxygen absorbers, and mylar bags.
