Daily: learn to accept praise

“How do you keep your figure?” really? I workout. I would’ve thought she knew that by now. And I try to eat well, though I do have a big sweet tooth. definitely more fruits and vegs than I used to. but it’s worth it, for this “figure”

An artist stopped in today, unannounced, like usual. and my boss is never there when this lady shows up. I wasn’t in the best of moods after the half hour phone convo with the boss. and had boxes of stuff to move back into the storage room. somewhat of a fail at organizing. the intern and I took everything out on monday, sorted through some, but today I was told just to move it back in there. ook. but this artist I like very much, remembers my name (not all of them do), and is always friendly. I overheard her in the hall as she was leaving, she gave my boss a call. “She’s a keeper.” Well, thank you, Ms. Bardos. I think she’s coming back in on monday, when my boss will be in

“I’m pretty.” a tall black man’s response to one of my pieces in the show. I’m short enough, that I have to look up to him. He came in today to pick up his photos from the last show, and took a look around. It was the 30 or however many photos of myself I printed out in a grid on one page. He then continued to compliment me.

“It is so cool how you are fearless about experimenting with new mediums and themes. That’s how we grow as artists. Bravo.” Mentor/old teacher/friend about my art in an upcoming show. we keep in touch every so often, usually just about art. I’m not too sure what new mediums or themes I spoke of. I’ll be showing a photopolymer print, which I made during one of my printmaking studios a few years ago. and it fits the “portrait” theme. and the other piece is a photo collage of sorts, well thirty or so photos of myself. my facebook profile ones seem to be artsy. and my boss suggested I print a bunch together. yes, I am anxious about showing both pieces. It’s a whole lot of me in the 30 or so pictures. and the print has a medical tie to it. If I get questions about it, I will answer. the “Astrocytoma” title I have for it probably says a lot

second time a conversation has been started up with someone that went to my college. never spoke to him when we were both there, he wasn’t an art major. and that’s pretty much who I was surrounded by. he’s messaged me, laying on the compliments real thick. almost that I’m finding it cheesy. well thank you, but I’m taken and happy. which, I’ve made clear to him

“you look great,” to which I added “almost professional?” and another compliment on my new jacket tonight. was suited up.

“I really want to hang shows like you do. Pretty jealous.”

“How’d you do that so quickly?” hanging the new show. shrug. it’s what I do ha. though, the artist who said that, his work was a bit more tricky. well, not tricky, but more time consuming using L hooks. though well worth it with how it looks

a compliment from the boss. that I’m “better than when I started” or something similar. pertaining to my people skills. yea I’m still quiet, but yes I have come along from when I started. people skills were not part of the previous gallery I worked at.

“Thanks for offering to help with the installation; Grace is a very experienced (and efficient) installer, so no help is needed now.” Yeaa, I got it. Copied in an email, the boss responding to an upcoming show artist.
