Given that I’ve just been regraded (favourably) and have applied for a managerial job I think I can say that I’ve got my “work mojo” back.

How bizarre

The other month at work there was a “Development Centre” where the new management team wanted to assess everyone’s soft skills (communication, leadership, relationship management, problem solving etc) and I gave it my best shot and thought I did quite well.

It turns out that I didn’t do quite as well as I thought.

The main problem I had was that the assessors thought I was drifting and not taking it that seriously, and merely letting things tick over until something better comes along.

This is what I find strange. Since coming home I’ve felt a lot more positive about work – in fact I’m almost ready to mark this as done (once I learn to put as much effort in when there isn’t deadlines to meet), and I’m taken aback that they think I’m not interested.

I’m going to leave this task here until I get promoted, which they have said is possible within the next six months.

Got a plan

I start back full time on the 23rd January.

I’ve been in contact with the person who’s going to be my new team leader and they should have everything ready for me on the day – laptop, phone etc. It turns out that they just took them from me a year ago and put them in a drawer – so much for getting some new kit :-(

I’m looking forward to going back to work – I’m going to give it a concerted effort to be a hard-working and productive employee who grows their skill set (wow – listen to me – I’m even talking the talk). That way I’ll feel more upbeat about either looking for work elsewhere or about getting a transfer/secondment to one of our Canadian offices.

Onwards and upwards!
