Now that I live near the coast with a long growing season, I’m excited to grow some organic fruit & veggies year-round. I started peas, tomatoes, peppers, various herbs, green onions, cauliflower, and mixed greens in pots around my yard. And we recently joined a community garden. We worked all spring to get the land cleared, and are now working on preparing our garden bed and planting seeds and plant starts. We’ll soon be growing our own broccoli, spinach, zucchini, strawberries, melons, cucumber, sunflowers, greens, cabbage, carrots, radishes, and more and helping with an awesome community project! It’s fun to work in the dirt, even if my green thumb is still in development.

I’ve had a garden in the past and grown various veggies. Right now I don’t have space for much but a few pots: I’m growing 3 kinds of tomatoes, basil, lavender, and catnip for my cat. Growing your own food is really the only way to know what’s in it though. I don’t understand why more people don’t do it. It’s easy, cheap, and makes you feel connected to the earth (and your food).
When I get to live in my dream house, it will have a huge greenhouse so I can grow veggies and herbs year round, as well as lots of fruit trees. For now, I can only dream about my dream house and its gardens. :)
