Dinner parties — 1 year ago
Yesterday we had an impromptu dinner party (actually just invited a couple of good friends round for dinner) and it was good fun. I guess the reason why we don’t do it as much is because of the fuss (clean and tidy the flat, plan what to cook, go grocery shopping, cook for hours, clean up afterwards), and also worrying about whether it’ll be good enough, esp. the food. Probably because I’m pretty critical myself (hence my other goal ‘be less critical’!) when I go to other people’s dinner parties, so I feel conscious that people will criticise me! And of course there’s the expense – sometimes I think it’s cheaper to give a dinner party than go out for a meal but it depends what you cook vs where you go. At least when you go out, you’re just paying for your own meal; when you have a dinner party, you’re ‘paying’ for everyone’s!
So actually, I guess I’m a bit uncertain about this goal. It’s good fun, but is it really worth all the fuss and agro? Going out for a meal is fun too isn’t it?
