2009: go home!

Have pinned list of pre-departure jobs to tatami room wall. Might as well get used to violating the Japanese interior design ethos. Did I mention I am flying by Malaysia airline? This means going via Qular lumpar (sp?). Not thrilled.

the deposit for a flat we have never seen! And I have booked my flight home! Things are starting to roll!

Got an email back from accommodation office, none of the flats were on the ground floor _hurray!
The one starting Aug 31st has been taken, so we asked her to make an offer on the one starting Sept 10th instead. The whole thing has suddenly become much more real. Last night K and I agreed to put our names down for an allotment when we get to Edinburgh, as a sign of long term commitment! Sod Mills and Boon, that is my idea of High Romance!!
I then spent quite a pleasurable evening browsing the ikea website looking for suitable tableware sets. We are, after all, going to be post-grads, and models of taste _{if not high expenditure}. No more mis-matching crockery for us! _{There is even talk of getting a mug-tree, and perhaps one of those posts to put the kitchen towel on. I never even had kitchen towel in the house when I was little – upper middle classes, here I come!}

Got an email from the accommodation people yesterday, asking us to take a look at some properties on their website and indicate any we’re interested in . . .K was in hysterics because I’d misread the address of our first choice, and thought it was on “Girthy Street.”
Have emailed to ask which floor some of the flats are on – hopefully our top choice will not be on the ground floor. Also, K, who initially looked on the tomato project as an endearing eccentricity to be tolerated as best he could, insists that we ask whether the flats have any south facing windows, in order to maximise tomato potential next spring. I think he’s now more interested in the plants than I am! I just want to eat the buggers, whereas he looks on the whole thing as a labour of love. Last night, I even caught him talking to them as I came out of the shower!

I’m third on the reserve list for funding. I honestly cannot see a minimum of three people turning down their funded places. Oh well. C’est la vie. _{Hitches belt up another notch of uncomfortable tightness}

Still waiting to hear about funding. The decision really has to come within the next week, though to be honest I’ve been thinking that for the past three.

In the meantime, we have filled out our accommodation applications, and K is sending them off today.

I’m really going home!

from some chaps at Edinburgh, who said my application looked very interesting, and would I care to read papers X,Y and Z (written by themselves) and get in touch so that we can take it from there! Apparently, they’ve even done some work on Japanese processing in the past!
This is very exciting, and hopefully promising _{hopefully they didn’t supply the papers as a means of politely indicating that my application was sorely lacking in well-readness!}.
Must go to bed and ruminate!

accepted onto the masters course, but the biggy is whether or not I’ll be given funding for the msc + phd, and I won’t know that for another few months.
