Ok – so I’ve been running for about 2 months now and yesterday I hit my 10k mark… well 11k actually :):) but let me tell you some things I have discovered in the process. I started off running fairly strictly but ending up with a strained hip flexor which p**d me off no end!grrr… so, I rested for a few days which made me think I was going to loose all the fiteness I had built up.. WRONG! I have taken a different approach now and it’s all about taking note of what is going on in your body. Instead of running when I am still aching or in pain somewhere I wait until I have properly recovered, when my body feels ready again. This has definitely resulted in being able to run further and longer. No I’m not doing it strictly, like every 2 days, I’m just listening to my body and going when I’m ready and aiming for 3 times a week.
One other thing that happened was in my first couple of weeks I got a really bad cold that lasted a couple of weeks. It wasn’t a terrible cold but I did have snot problems, sore throat and a head full of ‘guitar’. This made running uncomfortable and I didn’t do that well in those times. BUT I have since discovered that when you start running it releases free-radicals into your blood stream, a bit like when you have a massage it releases toxins into your blood stream for your body to dispose of. So at the same time as detoxing your muscles it’s not surprising if you end up feeling a little under the weather when you start out.So what I want to say is don’t give up if this happens! Because it is essentially detoxing you and it does go away!
I’m still smoking…. hmmm….. and i hate it… just waiting for the right time to give up, 8 weeks left of uni and lots of work to do… i think then will be my time!

Well – somehow I just decided to go for a run about 3 weeks ago. Got home and mapped out where I had run on the internet and realised I had run 5k! What? 5k? Totally thrilled with myself I am now running 8k 3 times a week – up to 10 next week! waaaaarrghh! how exciting! do it do it do it! because if you are like me and know you are not that un-fit then try it!
How I have done it is running and basically stopping when it gets really uncomfortable – go for a 2nd leg and it’s easier – stop again for a couple of mins to get back to normal and by the 3rd leg you are flying! It gets easier the more you do for sure – don’t be afraid to rest when you are tired because if you do the further you can run instead of running a short distance and giving up. This has made me feel briliant… ha ha! knew I was meant to run!
p.s – i know its terrible but i am a smoker too! so no excuses if u r a smoker! of course i am trying to give up! I hate smoking – aiming to do great manchester run….. anyone else??

A few times I have eventually got round to exercising I have cycled and ran… haha! not for long tho – max 3 weeks, Butt!my god – my ass toned up so fast it was incredible! Esp through cycling… it is the answer for me but for some reason I can’t seem to get myself to do it regularly unless I have no choice because it is my only form of transport! I love running…. just not for long periods of time! I have a 0-5k in 4 wks print out fron the i’net sitting in one of my files over there…. been there for a year now!I know how much this would help me mentally too. I procrastinate all the time and know this would snap me into a much more productive way of life – not to mention being more body confident. And I’m single so I need it!
I eat 75% healthy… (25% chocolate bar every day!) it’s just the exercise….. I think I have a fairly high metabolism that I never seem to put on any weight but I would still like to tone up and be fit – fit in body=fit in mind. Maybe I need a pal to run/cycle with? I need motivation. It’s that difficult thing of – accept who you are, they way you look etc vs you could be better?
hmmmmm
