When Indie Rock showed up I practically threw a party. What a breath of fresh air after the nineties! I haven’t been this excited about music since the eighties. There are so many cd’s that I can play all the way through, singing and dancing the whole way through. These songs make my heart sing.

I’m not usually a country music person but when Kevin and I started getting serious we had a discussion and at the end of that discussion he played this song to get his point across. The words were fitting and it made me cry because I was touched by his sincerity and emotion. Today it makes me smile really big…
Randy Travis – Forever and Ever Amen
You may think that I’m talking foolish
You’ve heard that I’m wild & I’m free
You may wonder how I can promise you now
This love that I’m feeling for you always will be
You’re not just time that I’m killing
I’m no longer one of those guys
As sure as I live this love that I give
Is gonna be yours until the day that I die—Oh baby
chorus…
I’m gonna love you forever, forever & ever amen
As long as old men sit & talk about the weather
As long as old women sit & talk about old men
If you wonder how long I’ll be faithfull
I’ll be happy to tell you again
I’m gonna love you forever & ever, forever & ever Amen
They say that time takes it’s toll on a body
Makes the young girls brown hair turn grey
But honey, I don’t care, I ain’t in love with your hair
And if it all fell out well I’d love you anyway
They say time can play tricks on a memory
Make people forget things they knew
But it’s easy to see it’s happening to me
I’ve already forgotten every woman but you - Oh darlin’
chorus…...
Just listen to how this song ends
I’m gonna love you forever & ever forever & ever
Forever & ever Forever & ever Amen

12. An American Dream – The Dirt Band
13. Battle of New Orleans – Johnny Horton
14. Afternoon delight – Starland vocal band
15. Looking out my backdoor – CCR
These bring back awesome memories of singing along to the radio as a kid. I remember skateboarding in the 70’s to Afternoon Delight. I remember talking on the cb radio on a road trip. My handle was starlight or something. On that road trip in the middle of nowhere I heard the Battle of New Orleans for the first time. I remember asking my mom about that song so I’d never forget it. CCR just plain sounded cool and I asked about them too. I had to have been under 7 because I distinctly remember sitting in my mom’s ‘69 Mustang at the house I moved away from when I was 7. American dream played on the 8 track in my stepdad’s van.
Good times.

Nevermind the energy level that punk has. In addition to that this song has a sense of humor. Plus I’ve lived down the street from Disneyland my whole life so when the music starts playing the part from Pirates of the Caribbean I can’t help but grin.

This was the first band and collection of songs that came immediately to mind. It’s my cleaning music, my road trip music, my get happy music. It’s both singable and danceable. I love them and am only just this second realizing what this band has added to my life.
I even cut two songs from the list.
1. Yahoo
2. Take a chance on me (I know ABBA did it first but I happen to have a soft spot for Erasure!)
3. Victim of Love
4. Love to hate you
5. Drama
6. Star
7. River Deep Mountain High
8. Breathe
9. I love Saturday
10. Always

I love music but I felt no need to write a list of favorite songs. There are too many and the list would fluctuate depending on my mood. When I saw this goal however I felt it. There are definite songs that when they are played make me want to dance and sing (and clean!). I move. I smile. I laugh.
Those songs are worth writing about. I don’t know why I never thought of this before because what an incredible couple of cd’s I’ll have when this is complete.
