fire a gun in a shooting range

Sunday past, I met my sister and her new police officer friend at an indoor shooting range. He brought along 3 guns and was a very patient and good teacher. We didn’t hang out a long time (it was cold and loud!) but I shot off 4 rounds. The guns were louder than I imagined and aiming/firing took a lot of concentration, but I was a better shot than I expected. I probably won’t do it again soon, but it was a learning experience.

I might get to complete this goal on the coming weekend, thanks in part to my sister and her fear of flying. On our return trip from Florida, she sat next to an extremely nice, chatty man who distracted her for the entire 2.5 hours with conversation on a range of topics. When she told him of her “things to do before she dies” list (she thought of years long ago and, because she is completely a-technological, it’s on paper rather than on 43things!), he told her he was a police officer and he’d be happy to arrange it for her—and me too! If everything goes smoothly, we’ll be at the gun range at 2pm on Sunday.

Jimbo and our son went to an indoor range on our son’s 18th birthday. I didn’t want to tag along, but afterwards I wished I had! They had a great instructor who explained everything well and let them try out a variety of guns. I plan to go to the same place some time this winter.
