Give blood regularly

I miss the American Red Cross. Since I’ve moved back to New York City, I’ve had to work with the New York Blood Center. The people from the American Red Cross treated their donors with so much more respect.

I feel like a piece of meat when I donate now.

9/11 blood drive

got my new donor card in the mail.

while signing it, i decided to sign the back of my license for anatomical gifts.

looks like i’m an organ donor now too!

I graduated from school in May and haven’t donated since! I’m eligible now. Saying good bye to the American Red Cross and looking forward to work with the NY Blood Center!

and it feels pretty great.

I just donated my 6th unit of blood this week! It looks like this will be the last one for the year.

Starting next year, I think I’m going to start donating Double Reds. I’m kind of nervous because something about shoving my platelets back inside of me doesn’t sit too well. BUT, all in the spirit of helping others, yeah?

It took an hour but it was worth every moment. The phlebotomist that worked with me was affable and great in every aspect. She put me completely at ease. Even the people I was waiting with was supportive and encouraging along the way.

On top of that, I got free juice, cookies and this awesome pin!

I came to give blood.. but I left with so much more.

Haha.

There’s going to be one hosted by Binghamton Hillel & The Red Cross, I think.

From 12-5pm, I think I’ll stop by after class and see if I can get an appointment.

It’s really amazing how sometimes it’s difficult to give blood because there are a superfluous(who remembers that from the SATs? haha..) amount of donors on campus.

I tried to make an appointment to give blood yesterday, but the only ones available conflicted with class : /

Next blood drive is Oct 31st! Marked on my calendar.
