Q: How do I eat an elephant? A: One bit at a time! 1 month ago
  1. Find an elephant (i.e. set a goal).
  2. Break it down. Break the goal down into small manageable steps. This will help me to stay focused and not feel so overwhelmed.
  3. Steps can be tasks or even entire projects.
  4. In the event that a step is a project, break the project down into tasks.
  5. Keep a task-list (todo-list) & have it with me at all times to add things as they spring to mind.
  6. Prioritise each step (project and/or task) based on how significantly it moves me towards meeting my goal.
  7. Schedule time every day to work on the goal. Do Priority A Work during my peak time of the day.
  8. Schedule Priority B Work (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly tasks, projects & appointments that are part of the work that must be done in order to maintain the status quo) after or between Priority A Work (because this work does not require high levels of concentration, it can be done during non-peak periods as long as it is completed on schedule).
  9. Identify what I need to get each step (project and/or task) done & get it.
  10. What’s the (or a realistic) deadline?
  11. Roughly divide all steps involved into an equal amount of work every day (allow myself more time than I think I need)
  12. Schedule in breaks.
  13. Reward myself with fun stuff AFTER I worked on my goal
  14. Keep track of my accomplishments with a tada-list. Update it every evening.
  15. Every evening re-prioritise & decide on 3-5 tasks to accomplish the next day. Focus ONLY on those tasks & complete them before moving on to new tasks.

Project A -> GOAL <- Project B
. Task (Project A) . Task (Project B)
. Task (Project A) . Task (Project B)
. Task (Project A) . Task (Project B)

REMEMBER:
  1. Taking action is essential!
  2. Visualise where I want to be in a month’s time, in six month’s time, in a year’s time & write it down!
  3. Say NO to time robbers!

I'm running towards nothing again and again and again! Why am I lost in a forest? 1 month ago

Step #3: Identifying why I’ve not been organised so far

Today I’ve been reflecting, identifying, thinking and researching a bit on why I’m so lost in a forest of amazing opportunities and totally unable to grab them. I think it’s because…

  1. I got overwhelmed.
  2. I lost focus.
  3. Having lost focus caused me not to take action.
  4. Not taking action caused me to feel even more overwhelmed. Back to square one.
  5. I got more lost and even confused.
  6. I went round and round in this vicious mind numbing cicle until I realised today that…

Re-gaining focus and taking action are my new best friends! And I will stop running and just walk in a pace that allows me to retrace my steps. Shifting from hare into the hedgehog-mode.

Step #2: Break down the intellectual/mental process of my goal-making 1 month ago
  1. reflect about things that happened or things I’ve donekeep a daily diary
  2. identify what I like/what helps me and what I don’t like/what doesn’t help memake lists
  3. think about ideas how to improvetake time out for myself
  4. research resources, find more ideas & tips how to put my ideas into practiseread and youtube
  5. plan future steps, give them an order and a time-lineprioritise and schedule

Step #1: Figure out how to organise any goal 1 month ago

How can I break this/any goal down into smaller more tangible steps (goal = project? task = step? job = action = task = step?)I’m a little confused how the hierarchy works with this

  1. get my database organised and up-to-date
    • add all my social networking contacts that I’ve actually met to my database
    • organise my “followers” and “fans” somehow
