Blood Pressure back to normal! 17 months ago

Today in my checkup my BP measured 120/80 – in other words, completely normal. Not high, not low.

Now that I am healthier, I need to stay healthy. That’s why I have many other goals to keep that up.

Pizza and beer and bowling 20 months ago

A traditional combination. The pizza was good, the beer was awful, and the bowling was fun.

When I woke up, however, I felt it hugely. But, I’ve been drinking lots of water this morning so I already feel better.

An epiphany 20 months ago

Wow. Caffeine makes me more hungry. It’s only after cutting it out, then having some this morning that I realized that. I need something that says “Caffeine makes you hungrier” to hang everywhere I go.

Yum... but... 20 months ago

I had a milkshake tonight after dinner. It was absolutely delicious. Then I realized it took up over a third of my total calorie intake for today.

Still yummy. But maybe next time I’ll get a smaller one. :)

Been a while 23 months ago

I have tried to be healthier. My blood pressure is now under control. My eating is under control. I just need to work on the whole physical activity thing. My daughter has inspired me, as I expected she would!

This is tough. 3 years ago

I moved a few weeks ago, and I haven’t been active at all since then. I live in a small cul-de-sac where I can’t run. There’s a huge park about 5 miles from me, and I haven’t had the motivation to go over there. I get off work at 5 now instead of 3, with a 20-30 minute commute instead of a 2 minute, so I have less daylight.

That being said, somehow I have managed to maintain my weight. I’d like to be losing, but it’s at least nice not gaining. I just have to get out there! But there’s so much I still have to do, like unpack, and get bills and mail straightened out. Oh well, at least I’m busy. :)

I'm still alive. 3 years ago

I’ve really let this updating thing go. Anyway, I’ve been doing fairly well, despite being sick this weekend. I have traced this odd sickness that I get to either pork, or just too much fat. I say this because the last time I got sick, I had eaten a big pork tenderloin sandwich the night before. This time, I had sausage gravy & biscuits. I am not sure why ham doesn’t make me sick, which is the reason for the whole fat hypothesis.

I have noticed a real shift in my lifestyle. I am focusing more now on activity than eating, and the results have been pretty much the same. I’m down to 270 lbs, 60 down from my heaviest (330, June ‘04) but the real happiness I’m feeling is in how good I feel. I run about a mile every day now, which is mindboggling. I think if someone had told me when I was in college that I would be running a mile every day, I wouldn’t have believed it.

No, no more pork for me. Hmm, maybe I should look into a kosher diet. Could be a possibility. Has anyone had success with this (I mean, other than those who eat kosher for religious reasons) ?

I have grown to love raw vegetables. 3 years ago

Especially broccoli and spinach. Upon analysis of my diet, it was discovered that I was not really getting any Vitamin K. So, spinach (especially spinach) and broccoli have joined my diet.

As far as cooked vegetables, I have started eating zucchini by itself rather than inside a tasty bread.

Wow! 3 years ago

February started out rough. But, it seems like my metabolism is catching up to my new lifestyle. I throw it a few curveballs now and then, but now the weight is starting to drop again. I’ve lost 21 pounds since I started changing things Jan. 6 (starting with ditching all drinks except water) and with the exception of a couple of beers last weekend, I’ve been sticking to that. (They were Beck’s Dark, even, my favorite, but ooh.) Having a flexible schedule at work is really nice, because I’ve been working through my lunch break and leaving early, which gets me home with enough daylight to get a long walk in. It also puts eating on the back burner, going from “MMM FOOD” to “I’m hungry. I’m going to eat something, and then not eat until I’m hungry again.” So, I have a good breakfast at 7 am, and a good dinner around 4 pm. I’ll take a banana to work with me if I think I’m going to be famished during work, but I haven’t been needing it. I might have a snack at home around 7 if I absolutely have to. My favorite food right now is a hummus and spinach wrap… I use those FlatOut wraps that are low carb, but I don’t eat anything marked “low carb” unless 1) there’s LOTS of fiber in it, and 2) I’ve had a lot of carbs already that day. I tend to “carb up” on the weekends, so I try to go light during the week.

Yuck 3 years ago

I had a bad day last night. Ate way too much, went out and stayed late. But, I guess it’s just one day. I’m going to try to lay low this weekend. However, I did walk about 3 miles yesterday… Ugh. I feel stuffed still this morning from last night’s smorgasbord.
