I try to do this as much as possible, by taking my canvas tote to the grocery store and putting things in my purse when I can.
I need to be more diligent about having a tote with me, though, for unplanned stops.
A while ago, my grocery store had an environmental discount for people who brought their own bags (and purchased over a certain amount). I don’t know if they’ve abandoned the policy or it’s just that the clerks don’t bother implementing it – I should check. I bring my own bags regardless, but it might encourage others to do so.

I went to a composting workshop last week (I am such a dork) and I said to myself “Self, get thee to Rona and buy a composting bin!”.
I learned that you can get free (partial) cans of paint at the Eco-Centre and that the Edmonton Waste Management Centre has a co-composter the size of 8 football fields (the largest in North America) that they use to process tonnes of resdential waste and biosolids. AND, according to their website, they have a landfill gas recovery plant. Neat, huh?

I don’t want to get all smug and complacent because of the little things – I need to figure out what more I can do. Suggestions are welcome.
On a somewhat related topic, I just read a really depressing article about the province of Alberta’s brand spanking new Mineable Oil Sands Stategy. See #10.
