Laying off on this for a bit 5 months ago

or at least tapering back.

For the first part, I found that I’ve actually gained 5 pounds, something I didn’t anticipate (or need). And second, I did get up to 60 mintues on the bike, but it got really hard getting up that early, and took time away from other things I needed to do in the morning.

Sooo … I’m hoping to get back to 45 minutes a day, and maybe keeping a tighter eye on what I’m eating …

I'm at what I think will be my maximum time 6 months ago

starting today. 60 minutes, at least 5 times a week, on the exercise bike. It’s really not as hard as I’d thought it would be. Haven’t seen any weight loss yet, and some mornings it’s really hard to drag myself out of bed. But I am enjoying it.

A new twist to this ... 7 months ago

First of all, I’m up to riding 40 minutes most days on the stationary bike. I’m headed toward 55 minutes, & should achieve that in about 3 weeks.

My husband was always an avid bike rider. It was nothing for him to hop on his bike and ride 20 miles (one way) to come out and visit me. But in recent years his biking has fallen by the wayside. Marriage, a kid, added responsibilities seem to have gotten in the way. His bike, too, was older, and it was getting harder to find parts for it.

Flash to last week, when someone posted a new bike for sale on Cheapcycle for a seriously-low price. It isn’t as sleek as the old one and will take some getting used to. But it now has the old bike’s seat and other accoutrements, and has been test-ridden, with positive results (and a smile on his face).

Now all we have to do is get the kid – and me – on our bikes, and we’ll be ready to ride as a family!

Still riding the stationary bike 7 months ago

I’m up to 25 minutes a day now, and not feeling too bad. I’ve read that if you can exercise for 55 minutes 5 days a week, you can both lose weight and maintain the weight loss. That’s where I’m headed.

Also, it makes me feel good … :-D

Beginning in increments 8 months ago

It’s pollen season, so I’m staying inside for now on the exercise. I read recently that the optimal weight loss/maintenance goal is 55 minutes, 5 days a week. I’m planning on adding 5 minutes a week, and hope to hit that goal by the end of May.

Hoping for good things …

Soon as I shake my sniffles I can’t wait to do this—even if it’s just on the exercise bike!

Finally, maybe some action here! 10 months ago

We just bought a used exercise bike, and will pick it up this afternoon. Now the only excuse I will have is not wanting to go into my cold basement, lol!

A small start 14 months ago

Thanks to jaosehl, my new online exercise buddy, I am going to try to ride just a bit every day. Good for health, the mood, lots of things. Thanks, j!

Something new! 16 months ago

Since my traitorous toe has pretty much put an end to any serious walking-for-exercise, I’m trying something different.

This mountain bike was listed on one of our local Cheapcycles—less than a year old, hardly used, at a really reasonable price. I’m usually a little dicey about biking, but I need the exercise, and more than that I hate not being able to do something as basic as walk.

Soooo … we got it this weekend, and I took it out for about a half-hour spin this morning. It’s in great shape, but my body will have to get used to the process again. Took it out early, rode down to a nearby park and back—all in 1st gear. Really need to learn those gears!

Also hoping me doing this will be incentive for the rest of family—biking would be a great thing to do together.
