I am neither diabetic nor overweight, but for the few months I did follow the glycemic index diet, I felt a lot better day to day because my blood sugar wasn’t bouncing all over the place. One could say I unconsciously still follow the diet to some extent, as I seldom eat outside the low GI range, but unfairly a lot of junk food is actually listed under low GI so I’d like to phase those out consciously.
