be a lawyer

Wow, it has been hard work and after law school, reading in chambers, appearing in court and doing pro bono work – the experience has been an eye opener. Legal practice in real life does not always mean justice for the deserving and sometimes having to emotionally disengaged is harder then you think.

No regrets though and I learnt a lot about myself in the process. Legal practice is not for everyone and oddly, after coming so far I have discovered that I am one of them. It is something one needs to find out for oneself. I know some lawyers do it mainly for the money or the prestige, but my advice is do only if you love it.

Am considering alternative careers but it was a precious learning experience nevertheless.

Actually I am very grateful that I have got a head start. I got my degree in law, heck even got scholarships, passed my bar exams while studying part time and have 3 law firms offering me a pupillage.

Yet I have been held back by abject fear. Fear of the profession, nasty judges and equally nasty lawyers. I am afraid that I am not tough enough and sharp enough to be a good lawyer.
I guess that will all need to change.
